St. Raphael Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten reflects the desire of the elementary school community to educate the total child. This includes a child's religious and emotional development as well as academic areas. The schedule offers times for religion, music, language/reading experiences, math, science, gym are and social activities. A variety of teaching techniques presented in the class setting allows for various learning styles and the individual's own pace.
All children will be exposed to all material, in hopes of expanding, not limiting their experiences due to gender, ability, or age. The teacher will encourage the children to "do their best" and their work will remain as they have "designed" it.
The Pre-Kindergarten (age 4) school year begins in September and ends in May. They meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00A.M. to 2:30P.M. Your child must be 4 years old by August 31st.
The Three Year Old Preschool Program is in session Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:00A.M. to 11:00A.M. Your child must be 3 years old by August 31st and must be potty trained.
Before and Afterschool
The St. Raphael Before School program provides students with a safe, supervised place to stay prior to the school day. Doors open at 7:00A.M. The cost is $4.00 for the hour.
The St. Raphael After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) is an after school child care and enrichment program for St. Raphael students in grades Pre-K to 8th. This begins its eleventh year of operation.
PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY AND GOALS
Grounded in the belief that a quality after school program is more than babysitting , we have designed a program in which children have the opportunity to acquire new skills and broaden their education in a safe, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. They may engage in indoor and outdoor physical games, receive homework assistance, small group or individual tutoring, do math, science and art activities, play educational computer games and more while developing healthy social relationships with peers.
HOURS OF OPERATION
The ASEP is open from dismissal (2:30pm) to 6:00pm. On those scheduled half days, the ASEP is open from dismissal (11:30am or 12:30pm) until 6:00pm. The program does not operate on school holidays or snow days.
The ASEP is located in the large classroom behind the multipurpose room. Students also have access to the multipurpose room, the schoolyard and the gym. At times the library may be used. Ms. Meghan Mancuso administers the program.
REGISTRATION PROCEDURES
The registration period begins with the new school year. A $10.00 non-refundable fee is required with the registration form. One form must be completed for each child and a check enclosed. If two or more children are registering from one family, one check may be remitted. Additional registration forms are available from the Afterschool Program or online.
PROGRAM COST
The following fee schedule has been set to the St. Raphael Afterschool Enrichment Program for the 2010-2011 school year. Daily Rate: $4.00 hour or $12.00 day Monthly Rate: $200 / Month ***All fees must be paid prior to service or on the day of service. No exceptions will be made.***
ENRICHMENT CLASSES
Enrichment classes are offered September through May. Depending on interest and staffing, some, but not necessarily all, of the following classes will be offered: Sewing, Hands-on Science, Kids in the kitchen (cooking), Jewelry making, Origami, Hand building with clay, Robotics with Legos, Bookmaking, and Gardening. Those students participating in enrichment classes only, must be registered and pay the $10.00 registration fee.
The Emergency/Medical Form must be completed for each child in our care whether a full time participant or an occasional enrichment class student. Every student registered with the ASEP will receive a monthly calendar of events and classes.

Students in grades 5 and up who express a desire to assist the priest at Eucharistic celebrations are taught the rubrics formulated by the Diocese of Pittsburgh. They serve at all St. Raphael School and parish liturgies.
Basketball
We can hardly wait! At St. Raphael, we begin in first grade with instructional basketball. Many boys and girls continue playing through junior varsity and varsity. Sections are determined at the Diocesan level.
Forensics
St. Raphael School is a member of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Forensic League. Incorporated into the grade 5-8 curriculum, students improve their public speaking skills in six different formats (poetry, declamation, drama, impromptu, multiple reading, and prose) and in competition. Let our voices be heard!
Intramural
Intramurals is an after school program for students in grades 4 through 8 offered once a week. It is an opportunity to reinforce athletic skills, develop teamwork and sportsmanship, and to have fun. There is no fee for this activity.
Safety Patrol
St. Raphael students in grades 5 - 8 may volunteer for safety patrol, which is organized to help students arrive at school and home safely.
Soccer
Indoor soccer is offered to children ages 4-10 for 8 weeks in February and March. Players develop basic soccer skills and play a scrimmage game at each session. The coaches are professionally trained in teaching soccer skills. A minimal fee is charged. Parents participation is encouraged.
